Algorithmic Evaluation of the Quality of Dactyloscopic Traces

My Bachelor Thesis deals with the design and creation of an application that replaces the function of forensic optical comparator. It also describes features of fingerprints and their prominent points, which are used for recognition of individuals. Work with fingerprints is very sensitive as for the quality of images. For this reason a Gabor filter has been implemented and described. Furthermore, the thesis describes basic functions used for work with images.
Liveness Detection on Fingers Using Vein Pattern
Extraction of Detailed Information from Plastic Fingerprints
Krsička, Tomáš ; Sakin, Martin (referee) ; Kanich, Ondřej (advisor)
This thesis deals with automatic analysis of plastic fingerprints and extraction of statistic information from them.   The application uses a texture highlighting algorithm to separate the area that includes the fingerprint and extracts the width and density of papillary ridges. These values are then converted into mm and appropriately exported. This information can then be used to estimate the age of the owner of the fingerprint. The results of the analysis of most of the data have shown wider ridges in male fingerprints and a growing width of ridges with the age of the owner.
Reconstruction of Damaged Parts of Fingerprint Image
Halva, Vladislav ; Drahanský, Martin (referee) ; Kanich, Ondřej (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the reconstruction of damaged fingerprint areas. The main goal is the design and implementation of an algorithm for the reconstruction of these regions. The designed algorithm consists of three main parts. The first part is fingerprint feature extraction and their derivation in damaged areas. The second part is a localization of damaged areas, which is based mainly on the structure of papillary lines. The last part is the damaged areas reconstruction itself. Gabor filter is used in this part of the process. The algorithm is implemented in C++ using the OpenCV library. An analysis of the reconstruction success rate is done afterwards. It is at first evaluated using the difference of quality between the input and processed fingerprint image, estimated by NIST NFIQ 2.0 and one other alternative tool for fingerprint image quality evaluation. The next step is a manual evaluation of the reconstruction success rate in various types of damaged areas.

Košťák, David ; Drahanský, Martin (referee) ; Kanich, Ondřej (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the design and implementation of algorithm for generating skin diseases on the image of synthetic fingerprint. The program produces images of fingerprints damaged by atopic eczema and psoriasis. The signs of each disease are embedded in the fingerprint images created by the Anguli program. The resulting images are tested by VeriFinger.
Analysis of Convolutional Neural Networks for Detection and Classification of Damages in Fingerprint Images
Fořtová, Kateřina ; Tinka, Jan (referee) ; Kanich, Ondřej (advisor)
The aim of this Master's thesis is to analyze detection and classification approaches using convolutional neural networks on the problem of fingerprint damage. The first part of the thesis deals with the study of literature related to biometrics and fingerprint processing with emphasis on possible diseases that may affect the fingertip area. Subsequently, the thesis focuses on neural network-based recognition. The thesis describes the architectures of convolutional neural networks and object detection approaches up to the latest research. Several detection methods for detection and classification of skin diseases affecting fingertip are proposed using modern architectures, different types of backbone networks and detection methods. Eight models based on four different detection and classification approaches are chosen for the experiments. Subsequently, each model is trained several times using configuration parameter adjustments. The models are assessed on the basis of various metrics and compared in terms of the use of the backbone network and the chosen method for detection. The best result of 76.875 % was achieved in the test of correctly detected and classified area on real fingerprint images. The most problematic disease for detection and classification was atopic eczema, whose symptoms can manifest in many ways.
